Clare Peeters

Chief Business and Financial Officer

Clare Peeters is the inaugural Chief Business and Financial Officer at The New York Academy of Sciences, where she oversees the organization’s financial operations and reporting, as well as spearheads business development initiatives. Clare’s extensive experience in administration and finance is instrumental in enhancing the Academy’s strategic growth and operational efficiency.

Prior to joining the Academy, Clare served as Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance at The Jewish Theological Seminary. In this role, she adeptly managed multiple departments including human resources, finance, facilities management, information technology, and legal affairs, driving significant organizational improvements and operational excellence. Clare’s career is marked by a blend of strategic business roles and operational leadership. Before her tenure at JTS, she held pivotal positions in corporate development and strategy within the book publishing industry at Random House and The Perseus Books Group. Her expertise further extended to corporate development and Chief Operating Officer roles at Axel Johnson, Inc., a family-owned investment company with a diverse portfolio of businesses. Here, Clare’s leadership contributed to the company’s growth and transformation efforts.

Clare graduated Phi Beta Kappa with honors in Economics from Harvard University and holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
